What Is the Azim Premji Scholarship?

Continuing college after Class 12 involves expenses beyond tuition fees. Students may need money for books, travel, accommodation, examination charges and other costs of attending classes. The Azim Premji Scholarship helps eligible girls meet these expenses so they can continue their undergraduate education.

The foundation provides financial support to students who satisfy the programme's schooling and college-admission requirements. It is a non-government scholarship offered by a charitable foundation.

Important: The foundation explicitly states that the scholarship is not based on academic merit, caste, income or religion. Applicants still have to meet all educational and institutional eligibility conditions.

Who Can Apply? Complete Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicant Must Be a Girl Student

The scholarship is designed for girl students who meet the published educational and admission requirements.

2. Class 10 and Class 12 Must Be From Government Institutions

The applicant must have passed both Class 10 and Class 12 as a regular student from a government school or college in one of the eligible states or Union Territories.

Completing only one of these two classes in a government institution does not meet the stated condition. The applicant must satisfy the government-institution requirement for both qualifications.

3. First-Year Admission in 2026–27

The applicant must have enrolled in the first year of her first recognised undergraduate degree or diploma course for academic session 2026–27.

The course must be regular, with an officially recognised duration between two and five years.

A student who is already in the second, third, fourth or fifth year of an undergraduate programme cannot submit a fresh application as a 2026–27 first-year applicant.

4. Government or Private College Anywhere in India

After completing the required government schooling in an eligible region, the student may enrol in a recognised government college or a credible private college or university anywhere in India.

The state in which the college is located need not be the same as the state where the student completed Classes 10 and 12.

Example: A girl who passed both Classes 10 and 12 as a regular student of government schools in Rajasthan and enrolled in the first year of a recognised undergraduate degree in Delhi for 2026–27 can satisfy the location-related requirements.

5. No General Age, Caste or Fixed Income Cut-Off

According to the foundation, there is no age limit and the scholarship is not awarded on the basis of caste, religion, family income or examination merit.

Do not assume a mandatory 60%, 75% or 90% marks threshold or a fixed annual family-income limit. These are not conditions stated in the current official eligibility page.

Who Is Not Eligible?

The official eligibility rules exclude the following applicants:

  • Students who did not complete both Classes 10 and 12 as regular students of government schools or colleges in eligible regions.
  • Students studying an undergraduate programme through distance-learning mode.
  • Students who are not in the first year of their first undergraduate degree or diploma for the 2026–27 cohort.
  • Students whose selected programme does not meet the recognition, regular-study or two-to-five-year duration conditions.
  • Students admitted to any programme at Azim Premji University for academic year 2026–27 or earlier.
  • Students who are or have previously been recipients of Wipro scholarships, including the Santoor Scholarship.

Official eligibility and exclusions: Read the Azim Premji Foundation's Application FAQs.

  • Three-year course: Up to ₹90,000
  • Four-year course: Up to ₹1,20,000

How Are Applicants Selected?

The foundation does not conduct a separate written examination for this scholarship, and it states that the award is not based on academic merit, caste, income or religion.

Applicants must submit the required information and documents so that eligibility and the application can be assessed. The foundation identifies shortlisted applicants and communicates their scholarship confirmation or status through the official portal.

Meeting the eligibility conditions does not constitute automatic confirmation of payment. Applicants should ensure that the application is submitted successfully and respond to any legitimate follow-up through the official portal.

Renewal for Second-Year and Continuing Students

The fresh application process and renewal process are different.

Renewal is for students who already received the Azim Premji Scholarship under an earlier cohort and continue studying their first undergraduate degree or diploma in the current academic year.

For 2026–27, the foundation has opened renewal for its 2024 and 2025 scholarship cohorts.

How to Renew

  1. Open the official renewal information page.
  2. Use the existing scholarship account to log in.
  3. Confirm that the registered mobile number and bank account remain active.
  4. Upload a tuition-fee receipt or bonafide certificate showing enrolment for academic year 2026–27.
  5. Check that the document identifies the current course, year of study and college.
  6. Submit the renewal and follow the status displayed in the portal.

Students who have already completed their first undergraduate programme and moved into a postgraduate course are not eligible for this undergraduate scholarship renewal.

The 2026–27 renewal amount is paid in two instalments of ₹15,000 each, subject to successful renewal and the foundation's disbursement process.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Believing that an income certificate or fixed percentage is mandatory when no such eligibility threshold is published.
  • Applying when only Class 10 or only Class 12 was completed at a government institution.
  • Confusing registration with final submission during Round 2.
  • Using a parent's or joint bank account instead of the required student's individual account.
  • Uploading a bank statement without the bank's required authentication.
  • Submitting screenshots, filtered photographs or edited certificates.
  • Uploading a hostel-fee receipt instead of acceptable college-admission proof.
  • Applying as a fresh first-year student while already in a later undergraduate year.
  • Applying despite being a recipient of a Wipro scholarship such as Santoor.
  • Assuming that the first-batch renewal deadline is the same for every scholar.
  • Paying an agent or unofficial website to complete a free application.
